Pulled Pork Barbeque...with a sweet, secret ingredient!

I get this sense of accomplishment when I create a recipe and it turns out good...well in this case, really good. I guess that's why I love cooking so much.

For this barbeque recipe you will need a large crockpot and about 8 hours of cooking time. (perfect recipe to throw in the crock pot before work)

Crockpot Pulled Pork Ingredients

One 2/3 pound pork butt (aka: pork shoulder)
One medium onion
1/4 cup (or a little less) of seasoned salt
1 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper
3 tbsp of Worcestershire sauce
24 oz of Dr. Pepper (trust me)
and a little black pepper

Okay, first, you will make a dry rub. Combine the seasoned salt, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper in a bowl. Once the seasonings are combined sprinkle the pork butt with the seasoning and give it a good rub. You want the whole piece of meat to be covered in the seasoning.

Now, turn your crock pot on low. Peel the onion and cut it in half, then cut those pieces in half. Place the onions in the bottom of the crock pot. Place the seasoned pork on top of the onions. Next, add the Worcestershire sauce on top of the pork and sprinkle with a little bit of black pepper.

Now, for the "sweet, secret ingredient"....Dr. Pepper! Poor 24 oz of Dr. Pepper over the pork. Place the lid on and let it cook on low for about 8 hours.

After 8 hours, check the pork. If you pick the pork up and it doesn't fall apart, it isn't ready. The pork should be VERY tender!

Once you remove the pork from the crock pot just take two forks and pull it apart. Again, this should be very easy because the pork should just fall right apart, if not, cook longer.

Serve as is or on a sandwich...or however you like pulled pork :)

For the barbeque sauce I just combined some of the liquid from the crock pot with my favorite bbq sauce until I got the right consistency that I wanted...it's all in how you like it. Let me know what you think!!
